Soar through the Pillars of Creation: NASA's Mesmerizing New Video

NASA has unveiled a breathtaking new video that takes viewers on a 3D journey through the iconic Pillars of Creation. This mesmerizing animation results from a groundbreaking collaboration between NASA's most powerful space telescopes—the Hubble Space Telescope and JWST (the James Webb Space Telescope) .

  • A Historic Collaboration

The Pillars of Creation, located 6,500 light-years away in the Eagle Nebula (M16), have fascinated researchers and the public since Hubble first captured their image in 1995. Now, with the combined efforts of Hubble and JWST, the star-forming clouds are brought to life in stunning detail. This animation is not just an artistic interpretation but is based on observational data led by astrophysicist Anna McLeod from the University of Durham, U.K.

  • Unveiling the Mysteries of the Universe

The new video highlights the differences in the views provided by Hubble and JWST. Hubble's images, taken in visible light, showcase the clouds with a slightly blurry appearance and hints of bright yellow ionized gas. On the other hand, JWST's infrared capabilities reveal the clouds in much sharper detail, with changes in color and the ability to see through excellent dust, exposing hidden newborn stars within.

JWST's advanced technology allows it to detect objects at cooler temperatures, offering a deeper insight into the star-forming processes. The winds from these young stars constantly reshape the pillars, blowing away dust and sculpting the landscape.

  • Expanding Our Cosmic Horizons

Mark Clampin, who is the Astrophysics Division director at NASA Headquarters, emphasized the importance of this collaboration: "When we combine observations from NASA's space telescopes across different wavelengths of light, we broaden our understanding of the universe. The Pillars of Creation region continues to offer us new insights that hone our understanding of how stars form. Now, with this new visualization, everyone can experience this rich, captivating landscape in a new way."

Produced by STScI(the Space Telescope Science Institute) in Baltimore and NASA's Universe of Learning, this video allows the public to explore the grandeur of the Pillars of Creation like never before.
